Jidoka (Automation with a Human Touch) is a fundamental principle of Lean, but is not often found in the construction industry. Layout is fundamental to construction required for almost every element of work that has to be installed on a construction site. “Where does it go” is the question that the process of layout answers for all the workers on the site and is one of the aspects making construction different than manufacturing. This curated coffee will be a discussion about design and construction digital layout, BIM, and how Jidoka is tying them together in the field. With the example of Dusty Robotics FieldPrinter automated layout robot bridges the gap between design and reality, bringing fully-detailed digital building models out to the field for error-free construction. Dusty’s robots are live today on a variety of construction sites. This technology improves the quality of construction through the process by requiring “Robot Ready Design,” and being able to record the actual layout information taking, “Trust to Digital Truth.” Please join us to see another paradigm shift in layout as it helps Construction take one step closer to manufacturing. This will also leave you looking for other ways to apply Jidoka at your companies and throughout the design and construction process.
