This presentation will highlight the fast tracked nature of the new Des Moines University campus located in West Des Moines. The team will discuss how collaboration, pull planning and LPS® integration has provided a means for owner, owner’s representative, architect, engineer, general contractor and trade partners to have buy-in, agreement, understanding and timeline for decisions. Multiple lean practices such as prefabrication, 5S, 5 Why Funnel, visual management and daily field huddle practices will be touched on. This will include both office and field perspectives on utilizing Lean tools and processes and will have a jobsite tour component.

Speakers:

  • Travis Bricker - Turner Construction
    Travis holds a mechanical and construction engineering degree from ISU and is a LEED Green Associate. He has been with Turner for 12 years and is currently Senior Superintendent on the Des Moines University project, overseeing the Health & Wellbeing building, the Campus Support Building, and sitework. Travis has lead several critical projects to successful turnovers through Last Planner System® integration. Throughout the pandemic he successfully implemented virtual pull plans and 5S in the field.
  • Nicole Schmidt - Turner Construction
    Nicole holds a bachelor’s in construction engineering and master’s in civil engineering from ISU, and is a LEED Accredited Professional. She has 14 years of experience and is Senior Project Manager on the Des Moines University project. Nicole’s passion for lean construction stemmed early in her career. She’s facilitated pull plan sessions virtually and in-person and encourages both Turner staff and Trade Partners to think outside the box to create safer, higher-quality, more cost-effective projects.
