Virtual Gemba Walks in Design (Northern California CoP)

Going to the “Gemba” or “where the work actually occurs” is a cornerstone of deeper understanding in lean practices. In construction that means donning PPE and going to the jobsite but what does it mean to the team when we’re in design? In recent years technology has been an amazing enabler to assist in a more immersive experience of design concepts beyond the 2D drawing. Come and experience firsthand how designers and owners are leveraging technology to engage users and the general public in facility operational understanding and community buy-in.

Speakers:

• Denis Stroup, HGA - Denis is a licensed Architect in   California with 30 years experience focusing on lean integrated project delivery and healthcare design. He is   the current Vice-Chair of the Lean Construction Institute (LCI) NorCal Community of Practice. Denis has a passion for building and sustaining a culture that fosters a highly collaborative environment where people do their best work.
• Keegan Kirby, Sutter Health - Keegan is a Registered Nurse by training, with 13 years of experience in Emergency Department Medicine, and 7 years as a Clinical Leader in the Emergency Department and Hospital setting. Keegan has recently transitioned into a new role as the Interim Service Line Executive for the Musculoskeletal Service Line for Sutter Health.

•  Carly Gertler, Herzog & deMeuron - Carly is a design professional who has been with Herzog & de Meuron for almost 5 years, gaining experience on projects ranging from the New North Zealand Hospital in Denmark, the National Library of Israel in Jerusalem, and the Memphis Brooks Museum of Art in Tennessee. She recently relocated from Basel, Switzerland to San Francisco to help launch the H&deM San Francisco office and is a core team member working on the UCSF New Hospital at   Parnassus Heights.
• Manas Gopujkar, HDR, Inc. - Manas is a healthcare planner and programmer with 20 years of experience on healthcare projects ranging from large urban hospitals and complex academic medical centers to the ambulatory care clinics. He has successfully led facility user group meetings from kick-off to sign-offs and has used both physical and virtual mock-ups to simulate the functional and spatial provisions, leading to concrete planning decisions. Manas takes keen interest in emerging healthcare trends, technologies, workflows, and planning approaches and is currently working on UCSF New Hospital at Parnassus Heights in San Francisco.
