At Interstates, we firmly believe that “rules don’t keep people safe; culture does.” Interstates has pursued Behavior Based Safety, along with lean practices, for over a decade and continue to evolve and stretch our people to work safer. In this presentation, we will share about our safety program and how we’ve implemented lean methods into our everyday processes and procedures, leading to better or more favorable safety outcomes.

We will also discuss the concept of the three-legged stool, which includes safety, quality, and productivity. Together, these three “legs” of the stool work hand-in-hand and contribute to how Interstates approaches lean on our projects.

Finally, we will share some of the lean methods we have recently implemented, including the safety improvement and benefit that was realized.

These methods include:

  • Thread in Place Methodology
  • Cable Tray Cutting Guides
  • Metal Punch Tool
