Trade Partner Perspective: Planning in Construction

“During my five-year apprenticeship, we never reviewed any curriculum involving planning work or managing and leading people. That’s because there wasn’t any curriculum of that variety, which is a shame, because the technical aspect of my work as an electrician has been the easiest part of my career. The part of our work that involves working with people is the most challenging. With proper processes in place, it can also be the most rewarding.” — Matt Kitzmiller, Lead Corporate Trainer, Learning and Development at Rosendin Electric

LCI Corporate Member Safety Campaign
In recognition of Construction Safety Week, May 5–9, LCI Corporate members can take the spotlight and share how Lean practices are making jobsites safer.
Corporate Members, you’re invited to submit an abstract showcasing a Lean method, tool, process, or procedure that improved safety on a project or within your organization. Selected submissions will be featured in an LCI-hosted webinar on May 5, 11:00 a.m.–12:00 p.m. ET.

Your team’s real-world experience can make a difference to peers across the design and construction community and be the catalyst to help others take meaningful steps forward.

Tools in Action: Revisit the Lean Marketplace, Day One
Catch What You Missed: The Lean Marketplace, August 20
Last August, The Lean Marketplace launched as a virtual showcase connecting Lean-minded AEC professionals with solution providers offering tools and technologies that advance Lean project delivery. The first day alone delivered four packed sessions worth a second — or first — look.
AlignOps kicked things off with a practical look at how real-time data on tools, safety, and workforce management cuts jobsite waste and downtime. vPlanner followed with a deep dive into their latest release, including synchronized pull, Gantt, and Kanban planning views with enhanced LPS metrics. Clearstory made the case for smarter change order workflows, showing how real-time visibility for GCs, subs, and owners can replace the chaos of paper and email. Oracle Construction & Engineering closed the day with a thought-provoking session on the history and future of scheduling — from the Empire State Building to what’s next.
Each session is available on demand. Head to the 2025 Lean Marketplace page to watch at your own pace.
And mark your calendars — The Lean Marketplace returns in 2026 with four full days of sessions on June 10, June 17, November 13, and November 20. More to come!
