Awards
LCI has four awards that are presented at the annual LCI Congress event in October. These awards constitute an essential aspect of LCI programs, recognizing the accomplishments of individuals in the Lean environment who have provided extraordinary service on behalf of LCI and/or the industry as a whole.
Pioneer Award
The LCI Pioneer Award recognizes individuals who have moved the design and construction industry forward in embracing and implementing Lean tools and techniques.
Board Achievement Award
The LCI Board Achievement Award recognizes individuals who have moved the Lean Construction Institute forward in meeting its mission of transforming the design and construction industry. The awards are given out during LCI’s Annual Congress where awardees are recognized by the Lean Design and Construction community.
Design Award - A Team Award
The LCI Design Award recognizes project teams that are delivering outstanding design while advancing the industry through collaborative Lean Project Delivery. The purpose of this award is to encourage the adoption of Lean approaches and methods to improve project outcome and elevate design.
Engineering Design Award – A Team Award
The LCI Engineering Design Award recognizes project teams (architects, engineers, designers, clients and constructors) who work together to improve the design and construction process and produce design excellence in the built environment. Selection of Engineering Design Award winners is based upon how the projects implemented the tenets of lean (50%) and generation of value/fit for use (50%).

Texas Children’s Hospital recently opened its first hospital in central Texas, a $485M greenfield hospital campus for children and women in Austin. The four-building project was master planned, designed, permitted and constructed in less than 4 years, on time, under budget–all during COVID, supply chain interruptions, and high inflation. Furthermore, the team achieved its own Conditions of Satisfaction including, “to have fun” and “finish as friends.” The team credits much of the success to its early commitment to Lean, training, onboarding, and creating a culture of “One Team, One Goal.”
