From Silos to Synergy: Lessons in Lean Transformation

LCI National

These challenges include inefficiencies, silos, and misaligned goals, which often manifest as fragmented workflows, redundant processes, and a lack of standardized practices. Project teams, and support departments, frequently operate in isolation, focusing on their own tasks without considering cross-functional impacts, while employees lack clarity on how their roles connect to the broader organizational objectives.

A notable example is a $9 billion mega-project on the Las Vegas Strip, which remains one of the most expensive privately financed construction project in U.S. history. This unprecedented scale brought significant bottlenecks in procurement, change orders, and payment application processes. Communication breakdowns among project stakeholders, including 19 project teams, 5 owner representative groups, 4 architectural firms and hundreds of subcontractors and vendors, compounded these challenges.  Additionally, the lack of proactive preparation to manage the massive effort of collecting over 7,500 contractual requirements and coordinating over 500 owner training sessions across all subprojects posed risks to the project’s successful contractual completion.

These challenges, however, also presented opportunities to generate value by aligning teams, refining workflows, and creating a culture of continuous improvement.

Attendees will learn how they can implement practical actions to drive operational excellence by taking small steps.

Speaker:  Aurelio Mayorga, Founder and Principal Consultant, Partnerships for Excellence
