Selecting the Dream Team for Project Success

Northern California Community of Practice

The IPD Draft will give a playbook on selecting teams who are motivated to build durable and trusting relationships that are the foundation to project success.

  • What makes a good team member?
  • Are there repeatable characteristics that Owners place higher value on?
  • Are there project-specific attributes Owners look for?
  • What behaviors contribute to a toxic culture?
  • Identify countermeasures to root out and eliminate bad behaviors.
  • Identify tools and tactics to facilitate a high performing culture.

Speakers:

Tom Martin, Sutter Health, has been leading IPD projects under IFOA contracts for eight years. He is the Leader of the LCI Northern California CoP. Tom has presented at LCI congress the last three years.

Tom Guardino, Herrero Builders, has been leading high-performing IPD project teams for fifteen years and has participated in some of Northern California's most successful project cultures. He understands that a "project first" team is neither easy to assemble nor effortless to manage. A practicing Senior Superintendent and an active LCI contributor, Tom's expertise includes production planning (Takt), Last Planner System, and Optimizing the Whole.

Jeffrey Long, Stantec, has been a key part of delivering Architectural project management for Sutter Health IFOA work. He has served as Design Team Leader for hospital projects in the IPD environment for five years. Jeffrey's key strengths are Last Planner System, culture building and facilitating Big Rooms in an effective manner.

Anabella Pinon, California Drywall, is a trade partner Sr. PM who has been excelling in pre-construction, production planning and high culture processes for IPD projects for 10+years in the California Bay Area. Her leadership is focused on fostering collaborative, successful and high-performing teams while working with multiple trades.

Laura Rice, Degenkolb, is a structural engineer who blends technical expertise with seamless project delivery. With 12 years of experience across a variety of project and client types, she works closely with owners, architects, consultants, contractors, and trade partners to bridge the gap between engineering and field execution. She believes high-performing teams thrive on trust, shared expertise, and a commitment to delivering solutions that support both the project vision and the people who bring it to life.
