How CoP Involvement Fuels Lean Growth

Building a successful Lean career takes more than learning the tools. It requires practice, perspective, and ongoing exposure to how Lean is applied across real teams and projects. That’s where LCI’s Communities of Practice (CoPs) can accelerate Lean growth to make a meaningful difference.

Save the Date: LCI Congress Registration Opens June 18!

Don’t miss your chance to be part of the conversations shaping the future of Lean at LCI Congress in Atlanta, Georgia from October 12-16. Experience powerful keynotes, immersive learning, and meaningful connections. Register early for the best rates!

What Makes a Strong 2026 LCI Design Award Submission?

Thinking about nominating your team for the 2026 LCI Design or Engineering Design Award but aren’t sure where to start? A winning submission tells a compelling story, one that shows not just what was built, but how Lean thinking shaped the process. The strongest entries demonstrate clear application of Lean methods throughout the project, measurable outcomes that reflect the value delivered, and concrete examples of collaboration across the full project team. If your project has a story to tell, we want to hear it!

Nominations close at midnight PT June 25, 2026.

Mental Health in Construction: The Research Is In — And So Is the Path Forward

If you’ve wondered what it would look like to bring mental health support onto the jobsite, LCI has both the research and the next step ready for you.

The physical demands of construction work have always been front and center in our industry’s safety culture. The mental and emotional demands have historically received far less attention.

In recognition of Mental Health Awareness Month, LCI recently shared findings from Addressing Construction Worker Mental Health Using Lean Approaches, an LCI funded research study that makes one thing unmistakably clear: this is a safety crisis that deserves the same urgency we bring to fall protection.

Construction workers make up 7.4% of the U.S. workforce and account for 17.9% of all suicides. The survey data behind the study is equally sobering — more than one-third of respondents reported their job is more stressful than they anticipated, and 56% reported a loss of interest or pleasure in their usual activities within the past month.

Here’s what makes this research especially relevant to you as a Lean practitioner: the Lean methods already familiar to your community correlate strongly with improved mental health outcomes. Daily huddles, clear goal-setting, visual planning, and participatory decision-making aren’t just productivity tools — they help workers feel seen, informed, and respected.

Ready to Take Action? Mental Health First Aid Training Is Coming to You.

Knowledge is the first step. Skill is what changes jobsite culture.

LCI is offering virtual Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) training this summer — designed to equip construction professionals with practical tools to recognize the signs of mental health challenges, respond with confidence, and connect colleagues to the right support. All from wherever you are. This is evidence based training through the National Council for Mental Wellbeing.

Pull Up a Chair — June Events Are Here

June brings four opportunities to connect, learn, and put Lean into practice — three exclusively for LCI Corporate Members, and one open to anyone ready to explore what Lean can do for their projects.

For LCI Corporate Members:

Kick off the month on June 3 with Build Better: Member Connect — a live virtual session built for new and returning members alike. Get a fast tour of member resources, an overview of LCI, and structured networking that helps you walk away with real connections and clear next steps.

On June 4, bring your questions to the Members Only Lean Coffee. No slides, no presentations — just candid peer conversation on the topics that matter most to your Lean journey right now. You set the agenda.

Then on June 12, experienced practitioners get their own space with the LCI Lean Practitioners Lean Coffee — a peer-driven conversation designed for those actively implementing Lean at the organizational, team, or project level. If you’re driving Lean from the inside, this one’s for you.

Open to All:

On June 22, Build Better: The Lean Advantage offers an evidence-based look at what the data actually shows about Lean intensity and project outcomes — and how to put those findings to work on your next project.

Good things happen when Lean practitioners get in a room together. There’s a chair waiting for you.
