Congress Session Spotlight: From Algorithm to Assembly

How can AI support Lean project delivery without losing the human collaboration at the center of the work?
At LCI Congress, Bernita Beikmann and Anthony Montalto of HKS will explore how AI and computational design can help teams identify constraints earlier, improve decision-making, protect flow, and strengthen whole-team performance from design through construction.
Make even more of your time in Atlanta by adding Learning Day courses on October 13 or Gemba Day site visits on October 16 to your Congress experience. The October 12 Golf Tournament is already sold out!

Stop Revisiting the Same Project Decisions

LCI’s Choosing by Advantages: A Four-Week Virtual Cohort will give participants a practical framework for making sound decisions based on the importance of real advantages. Through guided practice and real project decisions, participants will learn simpler CBA methods, strengthen decision conversations, and build toward using the Tabular Method for more complex choices.
Build Smarter. Lead Stronger.

Colorado CoP Hosts Congress Presentation Team
The Colorado Community of Practice recently hosted a Taste of Congress event titled Empowering the Field: Improving Collaboration & Retention featuring Katie Hegarty of Adolfson & Peterson Construction and Aaron Nuland of Ruder Built Construction.
Katie and Aaron complemented each other well as presenters. Their strong supporting data offered a distinctive look at how pull planning can keep trade partners engaged and empowered while helping reduce attrition in the skilled trades.

Aaron shared an engaging account of his shift from a directive, controlling superintendent to a leader who facilitates planning and involves others in shaping the work. He measured the transformation with humor: his name appeared less often on the portable restroom walls.
Katie captured the central lesson by describing a change in her approach as a project manager. Instead of asking, “How do I solve these scheduling challenges?” she began asking, “How do we solve them?” That shift led the team to develop the pull plan collaboratively with the trade partners on the project.
The space was full of people engaged in the conversation, laughing, asking questions, and connecting what they heard to their own experiences. Those are the elements that make a CoP event successful and bring a Congress presentation to life.
This presentation connects to LCI’s mental health research around feeling valued and connected at work. When trades actively shape the plan, bring their experience into the conversation, and influence decisions about their work, pull planning becomes an opportunity to put respect for people into practice. It gives the people doing the work a voice and a meaningful role in determining how it gets done.
If you are attending LCI Congress, you can see this presentation live on Thursday, October 15 at 1:15pm ET. Be sure to add it to your agenda in the Congress App!
LCI Communities of Practice welcome you and look forward to connecting at an upcoming event.
