Survey: How Do Management Practices Affect Construction Workers Mental Health?
We invite you to participate in this important research study aimed at understanding how management practices impact the mental health of construction workers. This study seeks input from individuals in roles such as construction workers, equipment operators, forepersons, superintendents, project engineers, project managers, and managers involved in safety, materials, or other areas directly working with teams.
You will be asked to complete an anonymous survey that includes questions about your background, well-being, and the management practices of your construction project, shop, or organization. The survey takes approximately 15-20 minutes to complete.
This study is funded by the Lean Construction Institute in partnership with San Diego State University and Syracuse University.
Colorado CoP hosts project site visit with Agilent
On August 23, Agilent’s Project Endeavor opened its doors to the Colorado Community of Practice (CoP) for its first jobsite visit since the COVID pandemic!
During the tour, the event participants experienced many insightful Lean practices utilized on the project. Senior Project Superintendent, Matt Ourada, showed how piping gets across the road from the tank farm to the manufacturing building.
Quality Control Engineer, Jamie States, shared how they are using the software platform Struxhub to support delivery and quality inspection management. Project Engineer, Kristin Colaur, described how Make Work Ready, one of the tools in the Last Planner System® (LPS®) helps the team to see schedule roadblocks 8 weeks out so that they can adjust accordingly. Virtual Design and Construction (VDC) Engineer, Lexine Gabrito, spoke about Doxel production quantity tracking done in the building information model (BIM).
The group also experienced firsthand the manufacturing facility. To round out the event, 5S Manager, Jacob Strong, and Laborer, Chase Paugh, explained how a daily controllables list helps them keep the Central Utility Plant clean and organized. How are they making 5S stick? Through a commitment to “Sustain”, the elusive fifth “S”.
Thank you Agilent for opening your doors, and hosting this learning event!
What Sets LCI Certification Apart
If you’ve earned a Lean credential before, you might be curious about how LCI’s Certification stands out. While many credentials primarily focus on knowledge acquired through specific courses or study programs, LCI’s Certification adopts a more comprehensive approach. It evaluates your ability to apply Lean principles effectively in a project setting.
Through a rigorous exam and portfolio review, the certification process allows you to showcase both your expertise and practical experience. Unlike other programs, LCI’s Certification is not tied to any specific course, and completing one does not guarantee certification. Instead, it offers an objective assessment of your proven capability to implement Lean practices.
As a result, owners and employers are increasingly seeking certified individuals who possess the skills and experience needed to confidently apply Lean principles on their projects.

Curated Content: Introduction to Project Purpose Statements
Before diving into design and construction projects, it’s essential to clarify your objectives. With numerous teams involved, each with their own perspectives and goals, defining a clear Project Purpose Statement is key to success. While Conditions of Satisfaction (CoS) ensure the project meets criteria set by the team, a well-crafted purpose statement fosters collaboration and aligns stakeholders around client value. By establishing a shared understanding from the outset, we can navigate complexities and stay focused on achieving our goals.
