Concert tonight. Hockey tomorrow. How? What does it take to flip the Schott? Join the LCI Ohio Valley and Northern Ohio Communities of Practice at The Ohio State University for a behind-the-scenes Gemba walk to see how the Schott transforms from concerts to hockey to basketball—and the planning, coordination, and continuous improvement that make it happen. We’ll also hear two quick-hit presentations from OSU MBOE alumni, sharing the real-world improvement projects they tackled for their capstones. Then we’ll do what all good Lean practitioners should do after a Gemba walk: reflect over drinks at happy hour. Gemba. Great ideas. Good company.   Participants from cross functional roles as designers, constructors, owners, trades partners, and associations propose discussion topics around any subject about which they want to learn – THERE ARE NO IRRELEVANT DISCUSSION TOPICS!  Each proposer takes 15 to 30 seconds to pitch their topic, written on a sticky note, to the group. Once all topics have been pitched, voting begins to establish a priority for discussing the topics. Topics are then ordered from highest to lowest votes and examined accordingly. Participants will receive 8 minutes of time to discuss the topic. After 8 minutes there will be a ‘thumbs up/ thumbs down’ to decide whether or not the discussion should continue. Lost in Translation: Lean tools for Universal Communication - VIRTUAL EVENT
New Orleans Community of Practice
Learn more
Not everyone can make it to LCI Congress, so this month, NOLA Lean Coffee brings one of its sessions to you. Construction projects often feel like nonstop firefighting – interruptions, shifting priorities, communication breakdowns – while running on multiple “languages” at once: trades, cultures, personalities, and different ways of processing information. This session explores how ADHD-related traits show up on the jobsite, and why many of these challenges are really symptoms of systems that overload people with information. Through real project examples, we’ll see how Lean tools – visual management, collaborative planning, and daily alignment points – build clearer communication that supports different thinking styles and personalities, helping teams coordinate more effectively.   Speakers: Heather Ormonde, active in the Lean...

A Diamond in the Rough: Aligning field experiences with Lean
LCI National
Learn more
Construction runs on experience — and experience is earned through years of hands-on practice. When you ask your most senior team members to adopt new approaches and unfamiliar Lean initiatives, you risk coming across as dismissive of the very knowledge you need most. The tension between new approaches and tried-and-true methods shows up across every aspect of construction. Is your contracting method the first hurdle that keeps key team members at bay too long? Are you operating with a risk-shifting mindset instead of a collaborative one — protecting your own interests at others’ expense? Should the GC dictate schedule requirements? How do you express the need for the project while staying receptive to the challenges your subcontractors face? When the...
