UCSF Health Capital Programs

James Pease is the Executive Director for Health Design and Construction at the University of California San Francisco.

Prior to joining UCSF, he spent 12 years with Sutter Health leading teams using Lean Integrated Project Delivery to build projects in excess of $650M. He develops ground-up medical centers, tenant improvements and mission critical infrastructure.

James is a past chairman of the Lean Construction Institute’s (LCI) Northern California Community of Practice. He is a keynote speaker, IPD coach, and executive editor of the IPD focused website leanipd.com.

James is a licensed CA general contractor and has a BS in Management Science from the University of California, San Diego.

As Vice President of Project Delivery, Katie employs her expertise to support a department focused on driving a continuous improvement culture and collaborative project delivery. She strives to promote healthy team environments to unlock the potential for collaboration and innovation using Lean design and construction techniques, tools, and behaviors. Her previous experience in preconstruction and project management combined with her vast experience coaching and facilitating Lean IPD project teams allow her to better understand the areas in which she can affect positive change overall. Katie earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Building Science from Auburn University.

As CEO, Brian Perlberg, CM-Lean, Esq., brings a proven track record of building coalitions, aligning diverse stakeholders, and fostering collaboration across the AEC sector.

Prior to joining LCI. Brian spearheaded the creation of ConsensusDocs, a coalition of 42 leading construction organizations dedicated to best practice contracts, and spent nearly two decades as the Associated General Contractors of America’s (AGC) construction law expert and in-house counsel. He holds the distinction of being the only U.S. attorney to hold a CM-Lean certification from the organization. Earlier in his career, he served as General Counsel and Director of Government Affairs at the Design-Build Institute of America (DBIA).

Brian earned his J.D. from the University of Maryland Francis King Carey School of Law and his B.A. in Government & Politics from the University of Maryland.

Jose Garcia is the President of Alberici Global Automotive Constructors, LLC., responsible for Alberici’s automotive market operations in North America. He also leads Alberici’s operations in Mexico. Jose is the executive sponsor for Alberici’s Lean Edge initiative and chairs the company’s Technology and Innovation Council. Jose also leads the LCI St Louis, Missouri Community of Practice and has co-chaired the LCI Congress Learning Committee in 2020, 2021 & 2022.

Douglas Lacy serves as Senior Vice President and Senior Technical Director at WSP, a global engineering and advisory firm, contributing to the Property and Buildings practice with a focus on integrated, multi-disciplinary project delivery.

With a background in Architectural Engineering and licensed as a Professional Electrical Engineer, Douglas is committed to breaking down silos and works to connect disciplines and perspectives for the benefit of clients and project outcomes. Douglas’ experience is primarily focused on critical environments such as Life Sciences, Data Centers, and Healthcare—particularly children’s healthcare. As a licensed electrical engineer, he brings technical knowledge in power systems and infrastructure yet sees these skills as tools to serve teams and clients rather than define his identity.

Douglas strives to support teams through guiding by the principle of continuous improvement. Focused on removing barriers to foster collaboration and encourage innovation. Believing that every project is an opportunity to learn, he approaches work with curiosity. Encouraging teams to embrace Lean thinking, challenge assumptions, and seek better ways together, with a belief that we must create an environment where shared problem-solving can thrive. He sees involvement in the Lean and Alternative Delivery community as essential for mutual learning to better the built environment and the industry that delivers it for our society. Above all, Douglas aspires to help teams grow, learn, and deliver value. His goal is to work alongside others in pursuit of better outcomes for projects, the buildings industry, and overall, the people we serve.

Advocate Aurora Health

Peter Messina is Enterprise Vice President, Planning, Design & Construction for Advocate Aurora Healthcare. His Lean journey began as a healthcare architect designing facilities across Southern California, Wisconsin, and Chicago. He is the 2025 recipient of the LCI Chicago Community of Practice Bob Krier Award, which recognizes excellence in Lean design and construction.

Dr. Messner is the Charles and Elinor Matts Professor in Architectural Engineering at Penn State. He teaches courses in construction, and the application of technology to improve the delivery of projects. His research interests include Lean construction, BIM, digital twins, project delivery methods, and globalization topics.

Rosendin

Stephanie Roldan’s involvement in the electrical construction industry began over 20 years ago. She began her career as a journeyman apprentice, rising quickly through the ranks to her final field position as a foreman. She joined the Rosendin team in 2004 as an Assistant Project Manager and has risen through the ranks where she now serves as VP of Learning and Development. She has been an influential member of Rosendin’s leadership team as she has made Respect for people and Continuous improvement a focus of the enterprise. Stephanie is currently the acting chair for the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion committee for Rosendin, co-hosts the Construction DEI Talks podcast, and serves on the Board for The Rosendin Foundation and Lean Construction Institute.

Stephanie lives in Tempe, AZ with her husband and three children. She enjoys playing golf and can be found using hip hop lyrics as leadership lessons.

Preconstruction Executive

Southland Industries

Natasha developed her passion for Lean IPD/IFOA projects in 2011 when she had the privilege of being the MEP Coordinator on the Temecula Valley Hospital Project in California. She has since been a Project Manager on multiple IFOA and IPD projects, and currently serves as a core team member on the Arizona LCI CoP. She shares that passion by coaching, training, and facilitating diverse project teams and students on using IPD tools, processes, and behaviors. Natasha has an unwavering commitment to the Lean tenet of “respect for people” which she believes makes construction a nicer way of doing business and influences the construction industry to adopt more progressive and collaborative approaches.

Process Improvement Strategies Leader

HKS, Inc.

As the Process Improvement Strategies Leader for Health at HKS, Andrea Sponsel is responsible for leading and participating in internal process improvement projects, coaching project teams, and facilitating internal process improvement education.  She began her lean journey over ten years ago, and was immediately immersed in the philosophy of improving what we do every day, and eliminating waste to create value.  Since then, her passion has been teaching the technical side and people side of change to others, promoting a more inclusive and efficient delivery of design.

Andrea is an LCI Improved Instructor for many courses, speaks at local and national industry events, and is a founding member of the Central Indiana Community of Practice.

Education, Advancement and Credentialing - AGC of America

Meredith Woods is the Senior Director of Education, Advancement, and Credentialing at AGC of America, the leading association for the U.S. commercial construction industry. With more than 17 years of dedicated service to the organization, Meredith is a tenured association professional with a passion for the construction industry. She is committed to bringing people together to elevate the industry through education, collaboration, and continuous improvement.

In her leadership capacity, she guides the education strategy for the association. Meredith is responsible for the development and management of the Lean Construction Education Program and the Certificate of Management-Lean Construction (CM-Lean) credential helping to establish lean construction foundational knowledge across the industry.

Outside of core education programs, Meredith also plays a role in workforce development efforts for AGC. She is committed to helping shine a light on construction as a rewarding career path, working to attract, retain, and prepare the next generation of construction professionals.
