Communication Update from LCI

This is the first LCI Weekly, which is your source for LCI news, updates, and details on upcoming events. The objective of the LCI Weekly is to better communicate with you and streamline information on LCI’s many offerings across the organization. LCI will still send occasional separate messages regarding deadlines and key information on our highly anticipated Annual Congress.

Your Insights Matter - A Member Needs Your Help

Your expertise is needed to inform research around healthcare construction in the United States.

Rob Crotty, a corporate member of LCI and a Doctoral Candidate at Columbia Southern University, is conducting research on “Critical Factors Influencing the Adoption of Modular Construction in US Healthcare.” There’s a catch: Rob can’t do it alone. He needs your valuable insights.

Rob is inviting you to participate in a brief survey designed to uncover the perceptions of modular integrated construction among healthcare project stakeholders. Your responses will remain completely anonymous and will only be used for academic purposes. The survey doesn’t ask for any personal or company information, so you can rest assured that your privacy is fully protected. Rob has agreed to allow LCI to share the results when the study is complete.

Time is short—your input is needed by April 10th. Thank you in advance for your invaluable participation!

CoP virtual events provide ways to connect and learn!

Did you know that you could build depth and breadth of your network and lean knowledge through participation in local Community of Practice (CoP) events?  CoPs continue to offer monthly opportunities for those around the country to participate in either virtual or hybrid events which is of benefit where there is no established CoP.  Highlighted are virtual events currently open for registration in the coming weeks:

What are the 8 wastes of Lean?

In Lean design and construction, we often talk about eliminating waste. Waste can be thought of as anything that does not add value to the customer or end user. There are 8 distinct types of waste that are commonly found in design & construction projects:

  • Over/Under Production
  • Waiting
  • Unnecessary Transportation
  • Over/Under Processing
  • Excess Inventory
  • Unnecessary Motion
  • Defects
  • Unused Creativity of Team Members

Learn all about these different types of waste, how to identify them, and how to eliminate them from your processes by clicking on the Curated Content banner above!

Fun Fact: The 8 wastes were originally 7 identified by Taiicho Ohno as “muda”.

Lean Assessments

How strong is your Lean knowledge? Take a Lean assessment to determine your current state so you have a baseline for improvement. Lean assessments are available for individuals, teams, and organizations alike. Whether you’re new to Lean or are an experienced Lean practitioner, Lean assessments are a great way to get started at LCI!
