Meet a CoP Participant: Jennifer Lacy (Dallas-Fort Worth)
Meet Jennifer Lacy, a 10-year champion of Lean and a core group member of the Dallas-Fort Worth Community of Practice. From real conversations at Lean Coffees to leading with empathy and courage, Jennifer reminds us that Lean isn’t just about efficiency – it’s about people. Her Lean journey is a powerful example of how community, vulnerability, and shared purpose can spark lasting change.
Why she joined her CoP:
“Our company was beginning our Lean journey, and I was looking for local opportunities to connect with likeminded people.”
Favorite CoP Event:
“Lean Coffees have been my favorite CoP events because they are real, raw conversations. You never know where the discussion will go, but it’s always centered on making ourselves, our teams, and our industry better. It’s where connection, vulnerability, and innovation collide – and that’s exactly the kind of environment we need to cultivate in our spaces.”
How it’s helped her career:
“Being part of the CoP has expanded both my mindset and my network. It reinforced that Lean isn’t just about tools – it’s about people. It’s pushed me to think more boldly, challenge status quo thinking, and continuously find better ways to bring people together around shared purpose.”
Biggest Lean challenge:
“The biggest hurdle is shifting mindsets from ‘check the box’ Lean to living and breathing it through care, respect, and continuous learning. Lean isn’t just about efficiency, it’s about creating cultures where people thrive.”
Best Lean success story:
“Every time I see a team member light up because they feel heard, valued, and empowered to solve problems… that’s a Lean success. Real success isn’t flashy. It’s built one conversation, one trust deposit, one ripple of impact at a time.”
Favorite Lean Construction Institute events:
“I’ve enjoyed both the Lean in Design Forum and LCI Congress! The best part of each is the energy – being surrounded by people who genuinely want to build a better future. Every session, every connection, reminds me we are not alone in this work. It refuels my passion.”
Advice to newcomers:
“Jump in! Don’t wait until you ‘know enough.’ Communities of Practice aren’t about perfection; they’re about progress. Be vulnerable, ask questions, share your experiences. You belong here the moment you care enough to try!”
What she’s most excited about for Lean:
“I’m excited to see more cross-industry collaboration, more human-centered innovation, and more leaders rising up who aren’t afraid to do things differently – to lead with empathy, curiosity, and courage.”

Updated Certification Handbooks: What’s New and Where to Look
We’ve made updates to both the LCI-CPC and LCI-CPD certification handbooks—and we encourage all applicants and certificants to take a moment to review the latest version. The most important change? We’ve added clearer guidance on maintaining your certification through Continuing Education Units (CEUs).
To maintain your certification, you’ll now need to complete a total of 30 CEUs in Learning and 30 CEUs in Practice. We’ve also expanded the list of eligible CEU activities to make it easier to understand what counts—and what doesn’t. You can find all the updated details on page 15 of each handbook.
Other minor updates have been made throughout, so be sure to review the full handbook to stay aligned with current requirements.
If you have any questions about these changes, reach out to us at certification@leanconstruction.org.
