LCI Committees

LCI committees support the ongoing work of LCI with guidance and oversight from the LCI Board of Directors.

Congress Planning (Content and Outreach Team)

This planning team reorganizes and launches annually to develop the agenda and speakers to support our major national event showcasing Lean Design and Construction. The planning cycle begins shortly after the conference ends each year and takes about 11 months to bring to fruition. Planning committee members are drawn from across the country including previous team members with experience in planning past Congress events. The program encompasses one and one-half days of learning sessions, a two-day core program of plenary and breakout sessions to include keynote speakers, and a half-day “Gemba”-style visit to local Lean projects. For more information, contact Joan Piccariello.

Design Award and Engineering Design Award

The mission of these awards is to encourage the adoption of Lean approaches and methods to improve project outcome and elevate design. The LCI Design Award recognizes the delivery of outstanding design while advancing the industry through collaborative Lean project delivery. The LCI Engineering Design Award recognizes the delivery of excellence in fit for use and engineering design while also advancing the industry through collaborative Lean project delivery. For more information, contact Joan Piccariello.

Design Forum Planning

This planning group is organized annually to develop the agenda and recruit appropriate industry speakers that will encourage the A&E industry to become more aware of Lean Design and Construction and more interested in becoming engaged in Lean projects. The planning cycle begins late in the year and progresses through the subsequent year, with the Design Forum taking place in the spring. For more information, contact Joan Piccariello.

Member Advisory Committee

The Member Advisory Committee (MAC) is a diverse, cross-sector group of members who plays a vital role in shaping the member experience by offering insight, feedback, and strategic guidance to LCI staff. MAC members help strengthen the value of membership, identify emerging industry needs, and champion Lean adoption across the AEC community. Any LCI corporate member is eligible to apply. If you’re ready to make an impact and help drive meaningful change in the industry, reach out to Maryann Fiala. New members are always welcome!

National Practice Team (NPT)

At the heart of Lean Construction Institute’s mission, the National Practice Team (NPT) serves as the guiding coalition behind the growth and impact of our Communities of Practice (CoPs). Made up of CoP Leaders, LCI Board Liaison, select staff, and the NPT Core Group, this team cultivates the tools, relationships, and strategies that help local CoPs thrive.
The NPT Core Group plays a critical role in fostering a connected, empowered network of leaders—developing resources, addressing shared challenges with targeted countermeasures, and offering standard work and guidance that respects local autonomy while aligning with national goals. Through this work, the NPT creates space for collaboration, innovation, and shared learning—ensuring that Lean thinking continues to grow deeper roots and deliver greater impact across every market we serve.

On-line Owners Forum

If you work for an LCI Owner member company, you’re invited to join the LCI Online Owners Forum—a dedicated space just for you. This members-only forum is designed to help Owner representatives connect, ask questions, exchange best practices, and explore how Lean is being implemented across the industry. Whether you’re new to Lean or looking to deepen your expertise, the forum offers a safe, supportive space to learn from peers and share real-world experiences. Participation is open to all employees of Owner member companies at no additional cost. To join, reach out to Maryann Fiala. New members are always welcome!

Research

The Research Committee (RC) helps set the research agenda for LCI in consultation with the LCI Board of Directors. It also identifies and leads research projects, based on a process of identification, definition, and implementation of ongoing research. The process leverages the expertise of the Board, LCI staff, and industry volunteers to prioritize use of LCI research funding. Projects may be performed by RC members, LCI members, or external parties. Membership historically has been five to eight academic institutions that contain at least one leading researcher focused on Lean Construction. For more information, contact Tammy McConaughy.

Respect for People Education Committee

The purpose of LCI Respect for People Education Committee is to advance the understanding, learning and practice of Respect for People in the AEC industry.
The committee’s primary focus is on:

  • Champion and update LCI’s definition of the four pillars of Respect for People.
  • Develop learning and engagement resources.
  • Host spotlight events and sharing lesson learned.

For more information, contact Tammy McConaughy.

Trade Partner Committee

The Trade Partner Committee operates under LCI Education and supports LCI’s mission and vision by advancing strategic education goals and initiatives. This group focuses on engaging trade partner organizations, labor officials, and direct shop and field leads—who are essential to the success of Lean Construction—to increase awareness, understanding, and implementation of Lean practices.
One of the committee’s key initiatives is a nationally-based YouTube channel that highlights how trade partners are eliminating waste and improving outcomes through Lean. The short, practical videos serve as a learning resource and a platform for sharing field-level innovations. For more information, contact Mattie Gagnon.
