AI: Path to Obsolescence or Transcendence?

There is a real risk that AI will make us passive consumers if we are not careful.  Its speed, comprehensiveness, confidence, and exponential learning curve are seductive, powerful, and almost too easy.  So where does this leave the human knowledge worker?  Will we become obsolete or reinvent ourselves as something greater?  This session is going to look at six areas of our work – purpose & meaning, gaps/blindspots, technical knowledge, behavioral insights, collaboration, and teaching others.  We’ll look at examples of how AI can be used to make us stupider or smarter across each of these topics and hopefully leave with a much more sophisticated, intentional, compassionate, and meaningful strategy for leveraging AI for our greatest good. (Andreas Phelps)

Lean and the Inner Revolution

This session is a deep introspective exploration of what goes into  true transformative change.  Using relatable examples for the life and career of a construction executive, this talk looks at the psychological importance of key steps in the transformative journey both to bring greater meaning to our experiences and also understand why challenge and difficulty are so essential in enabling growth.  We will also discuss how our individual experiences can provide meaningful insight into what is needed for lasting organizational transformation. (Andreas Phelps and Ryan Heeter)

Speakers:

Andreas Phelps is founder of The Collective Potential, a San Francisco-based practice that serves as a catalyst for organizational transformation. Weaving together principles of lean, integration science, and Jungian depth psychology, The Collective Potential works deeply with executive and thought leaders to 1) shift their perspective of reality and potential, 2) reframe their attitude toward individual and collaborative work, and 3) redefine their sense of purpose.  Through this work, leaders can more intentionally and skillfully drive and sustain transformation within their teams and organizations – and do so with greater integrity and firsthand experience of the technical and psychological challenges to change both at the individual and organizational levels.

Ryan Heeter is Senior Vice President and Division Leader at Gilbane Building Company, overseeing operations across California, Nevada, and Arizona. With over 25 years in construction and a decade dedicated to leadership development, Ryan brings a holistic approach to building high-performing teams. He is also a facilitator with Ripple Intent, promoting collaboration and human-centered leadership. Ryan’s passion lies in transforming organizations through strategic alignment, operational excellence, and a deep commitment to people—making him a powerful voice in advancing Lean culture.
