  • Duane Caldwell (EHS Industry Expert)
    Duane has 35 years of EHS experience in industries such as medical devices, biopharmaceuticals, semiconductors, electronics manufacturing, Internet services, media,  utilities, and risk management consulting. This included construction safety and risk management across various industries globally, applying principles of Lean, Six Sigma, and behavior-based safety to mitigate risks, minimize waste, and maximize value while building strong team cultures. Outside of work, Duane enjoys time with his daughters and rescued racing greyhounds. 

  • Shawn Garrett Sr. (Superintendent, Southland Industries)
    Shawn started his career in mechanical contracting in 1992 as a sheet metal pre-apprentice. Since turning out as a journeyman in 1999, he has worked on projects in the biopharmaceutical, higher education, and commercial markets. Over the years he has held positions as a journeyman, sheet metal foreman, and general foreman. He has extensive experience with Lean construction methods from work performed, including Last Planner, pull scheduling, prefabrication, 3D CAD/BIM and just-in-time delivery.

  • Keith Alexander (Superintendent, California Drywall)
    Keith's journey in the construction industry started as a drywall/lather after high school. he balanced full-time work with ongoing education, attending both apprentice school and college for construction management. With two decades in the industry, over 12 years in leadership roles, Keith was introduced to Lean practices about 7 years ago. Keith's investment in his professional development is evident through his Lean Bronze certification and he embraces Lean principles such as visual management and 5S, utilizing tools like stand-up boards to enhance communication and efficiency on projects. As a leader, Keith prioritizes coaching and mentoring his team while emphasizing the core principles of Lean.

  • Tony Jimenez (NorCal Safety Manager, Kaiser)
    Tony graduated from SJSU with a BS, Minor in EH&S. He has 20+ years of experience in EH&S and has been with Kaiser Permanente in various EH&S roles since 2007.  In his current role, Tony administers the Construction Safety Program for Kaiser Permanente in Northern California.  This includes working with our GC partners, internal Kaiser Permanente Capital Project Facilities Construction (CPFC) and all our Facilities in Northern California to ensure the Safety of all patients, members, staff and the communities we serve when executing construction projects at our facilities.

  • Moderated by Tom Guardino (General Superintendent, Herrero Builders)
    Tom has spent the past three decades building major acute care facilities and championing integrated project delivery teams. He's a Lean construction industry veteran, recognized by clients and colleagues for his ability to cultivate a positive and productive project culture through communication excellence, open dialogue, collaboration, alignment and rigor. Tom’s leadership has been instrumental to the success of many notable Herrero projects, including Sutter Health’s CPMC Mission Bernal Replacement Hospital, Alta Bates Medical Center, Santa Rosa Regional Hospital Expansion and currently the UCSF New Hospital at Parnassus Heights.
