Swarm With Owners About Sustaining High Performing Teams

New England Community of Practice

Owners from the Boston metro area will kick off this session by discussing their regional challenges in developing and sustaining High Performing Teams within their organizations and projects. They will share their challenges in terms of:

  1. Overcoming the perception that standard work stifles creativity.
  2. Coordinating decision making by key stakeholders at the rate that their organizations and projects need.
  3. Leveraging diverse perspectives to develop better solutions for organizational and project challenges.
  4. Innovating to improve long-term project outcomes (e.g., designing for life cycle + sustainability, leveraging a Design for Release™ mindset, and using BIM + prefabrication / modularity to improve constructability).

They will discuss strategies that they used to address these challenges and their varying impacts so far, including:

  1. Adding BIM, Lean Design + Construction, and Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion expectations to their RFQs/RFPs.
  2. Training MBE/WBE companies on how to manage more challenging clients and projects.
  3. Training internal staff in Lean project delivery principles, tools, and techniques.

Then, the audience will form small groups to see if our collective knowledge and experience can help us "swarm" the challenges introduced by the Owner Panel. We will see if we can come up with even better ideas, strategies, and techniques to address these challenges that are commonly encountered within any regional market.
