Communities of Practice: How Does a Lean Coffee Work?
Lean Coffee events bring real conversations to the table—where project teams, owners, and practitioners gather to discuss the latest in Lean Construction and Design.
They’re collaborative, engaging, and focused on what matters most to you—whether that’s improving workflows, solving project challenges, or sharing Lean practices.
Here’s how they work:
- Participants gather (virtually or in person) with no pre-set agenda
- Topic Brainstorm: Everyone writes down what they want to discuss
- Vote: The group votes on the topics they care about most
- Time-Boxed Discussions: Each topic gets 5–10 minutes. When time’s up, the group decides whether to continue or move on
- Capture Key Takeaways: Discussions are summarized so everyone leaves with valuable insights

Get Inspired by a Past Congress Presenter & Submit Your Proposal!
Raise your profile and add your voice to the Lean conversation as a 2025 Congress presenter this October. Submit your Congress presentation proposal by Wednesday, March 5—less than three weeks away!
Get inspired by a Congress speaker—
“As a past Congress presenter, I found it incredibly rewarding to share my Lean learning alongside my project partners. It’s a great opportunity to help drive Lean advances, spur meaningful conversations, and build connections with industry peers who I wouldn’t have met outside of Congress. And we were honored to receive fantastic recognition for our team’s 2024 session How to Surf as an IPD team without an IFOA Wave, which was voted the highest-rated presentation of the conference! I am already looking forward to the 2025 LCI Congress in Arlington, Texas!”
—Scott Boisvert, Director, Engineering, Merck & Co., Inc.
