LCJ EDITORIAL ROLES & STRUCTURE
Active & Operational Roles
Editorial Leadership
Structure: One Editor-in-Chief, One Practice Editor, One Academic Editor (Vacant)
Core Responsibility: Together, this core leadership team drives the journal’s long-term vision, maintains its ultimate academic and professional integrity, and oversees daily operations. They set and steward LCJ’s voice, vision, and operational standards.
-
Editor-in-Chief: Focuses on macro policy, strategic external engagements, and serves as the final decision authority on major disputes related to review outcomes, content accuracy, or ethical boundaries. Acts as a manuscript reviewer on an as-needed basis.
-
Current: Farook Hamzeh, PhD, PEng
-
-
Editors (Operational Leads): Provide day-to-day leadership and pipeline coordination. They oversee the peer-review process across all submissions, coordinate directly with Theme Editors, make standard publication decisions, and resolve routine review issues.
-
Practice Editor: Dominic Desmarais
-
Academic Editor: Vacant (Recruitment in progress)
-
Theme Editors & Theme Associate Editors
-
Theme Editors: Subject-matter specialists who manage specific topical areas or tracks within the journal. They assign peer reviewers, synthesize reviewer feedback, and make initial manuscript recommendations to the operational Editors.
-
Theme Associate Editors: Provide deep technical expertise and frontline review support. They assist Theme Editors by conducting detailed preliminary evaluations, tracking down qualified peer reviewers, and helping move papers smoothly through the review pipeline.
Consultative & Stewardship Roles
Advisory Board
-
Core Responsibility: A body of senior scholars and industry leaders who provide high-level strategic counsel, track industry trends, and advise the Editorial Leadership on long-term initiatives, special issues, and policy updates. They do not manage the daily review pipeline but act as an essential brain trust.
Co-Founding Editors
-
Core Responsibility: Stewards of the journal’s foundational mission, history, and community trust. While they hold no day-to-day operational authority in their capacity as founders, they provide invaluable institutional memory. Note: Individual founders may simultaneously choose to step into active operational seats (e.g., serving as a Theme Editor).
-
Founders: Alan Mossman & Tariq Abdelhamid
-
Editors-in-Chief (Honorary & Historical)
-
Core Responsibility: A permanent, legacy designation created to honor the pioneering leadership and monumental contributions of individuals who previously shaped the journal’s trajectory as past Editors-in-Chief.
-
Honored Leaders: Glenn Ballard & Gregory A. Howell (In memoriam)
-
Editors-at-Large
-
Core Responsibility: Appointed ambassadors and advisors for the journal. They champion LCJ within their professional and academic networks, identify emerging research trends, and offer independent, high-level guidance to the active Editor-in-Chief on an as-needed basis.
