Abstract:

Question: How can construction project planning and monitoring be enhanced by the successful collaboration of the Last Planner System® (LPS®) and Location-Based Management System (LBMS)?

Purpose: The goal of this research is to create a realistic and understandable workflow that combines LBMS with LPS, allowing for better planning transparency and more efficient project monitoring by utilizing organized templates.

Research Method: The foundation of the research includes a review of previous studies on the integration of LPS and LBMS as well as an examination of planning processes, including master scheduling, phase scheduling, look-ahead planning, and weekly planning.

Findings: The study shows that while LPS offers clarity in rolling out milestones into manageable tasks and carrying them out within specified time constraints, LBMS is helpful for milestone planning and master scheduling. For integration to be successful, a structured workflow connecting master scheduling, phase planning, look-ahead planning, and weekly planning is necessary. Useful insights are produced by a monitoring system that integrates information from the planning and execution teams as well as other relevant stakeholders.

Limitations: The suggested framework, which is conceptual and template-based, has not yet undergone thorough empirical testing on a variety of project types.

Implications: Failure to adopt the LPS & LBMS framework may perpetuate shortcomings in existing planning methods, ultimately resulting in project delays.

Value for authors: The present research improves project monitoring effectiveness and simplifies the integration of LPS and LBMS by providing researchers and practitioners with a helpful collection of templates and a straightforward process.
