How does Artificial Intelligence Enhance Lean?

Please join us for a special interactive panel discussion at LCI’s Lean in Design Forum being held in Phoenix, AZ on May 5, 2022.

The panel, Lean Futures and the Role of Artificial Intelligence (AI), will feature the following outstanding speakers:

Zigmund Rubel, Forsight Digital, Moderator; Patrick Chopson, cove.tool; Patrick Eldridge, KLH Engineers.

  • Zigmund (Zig) Rubel is CEO and Founder of Forsight Digital, an exciting new Artificial Intelligence technology company. Zig is the former Chief of Building Sciences, Aditazz.
  • Patrick Chopson, is Co-Founder of cove.tool, where he oversees product development and research. Patrick focuses on the crossover between architecture and technology.
  • Patrick Eldridge, of KLH Engineers, where he is the go-to resource for machine learning. Patrick focuses on AI to empower engineers and architects to spend less time documenting designs and more time exploring the solution space.
  • Matthew Jogan, of Ghafari Associates, a highly respected design architect by training, helps guide Integrated Project Delivery (IPD) teams in the application of Lean inspired tools and methodologies.

The panelists will discuss how AI concepts enhance Lean methods and how this relates to the Lean practitioners in the design community. Broad areas of discussion will include how design tools can leverage AI to minimize design process waste and create new design value. They will explore how leveraging AI in the “As-Built” modeling approach can further reduce mundane tasks and free up time for more valuable dialogue with clients. Our panel will also cover how AI can approach Lean knowledge by streamlining the processing of data and information collection on Lean activities.

Specific questions/topics to be addressed include:

  • How we can automate knowledge?
  • Using a Deming model for resiliency, how would the Cove Tool enable Lean thinking in the context of a purely sustainable methodology?
  • How can decision making timing be optimized in design? When do decisions have to be made? The panelists are advocates for continuous simulation and will address how much effort is added if you are doing continuous versus step/linear simulation.
  • The benefit of being non-sequential and the ability to consider multiple workflows to figure out the best one. How can design teams optimize for predictability and speed?
  • How can we build more iterations into the design process? Why does it take 8 years for a hospital versus 8 weeks for a home?  In theory, AI can allow the same iteration speed for a hospital as for a home.
  • The current idea of the Last Responsible Moment is to wait to gather as much knowledge as you can, given the project constraints. Could AI help project teams extend the Last Responsible Moment?
  • What is the role of the user and the role of the design team in the AI world?

We look forward to seeing you in Phoenix! Register online here.
